FSW men's basketball aims for FCSAA Championship after conference win

FORT MYERS, Fla. — FSW men's basketball team is preparing for the FCSAA Championship after clinching the Citrus Conference Championship, with their ultimate goal of winning a national title in sight.

Head coach Darren Wallace said, "Not only are there like very talented players that we go against each and every week, but the coaches are really good, too. And so it just prepares you during the season, no matter who the opponent is, we feel confident going in that we can win the games."

Players credit their success to the culture built by Coach Wallace, which emphasizes family. Lamont Hartfield said, "You know, when you're coming in as a freshman, sometimes people, people seem to not care about you, but I mean, coming in here, having people that care about you and helping you and leaving you things that you didn't really know about."

Kenyon Giles added, "I would say chemistry, as a team, like us bonding on and off the court. And that's just having a great relationship. Like one of the best things, top-10."

Despite celebrating their conference title, the team remains focused on their ultimate goal. Kenyon Giles expressed their ambition, "Oh, we want to win it. We want to win it all. We're going to win a championship, head to 'Hutch.'"

Lamont Hartfield echoed this sentiment, "We are going to try to win it all, go to Hutch and win it all as well."

With the conference title already secured, FSW is determined to finish the job. Tournament play starts March 11 against Chipola.
