Everblades chasing history again after clinching South Division title
ESTERO, Fla. —The Florida Everblades are once again setting the standard in the ECHL.
After clinching the South Division title, the Everblades have secured their spot in the playoffs and are now turning their focus toward another championship run. Under head coach Brad Ralph, the winningest coach in ECHL postseason history, expectations in Southwest Florida remain as high as ever.
"We’re just chasing that feeling of hoisting a cup again, and it’s a tall order. It’s not easy to have that pressure, but, at the same point, you know, we’re fortunate to be here, and we’re excited for that," Ralph said.
The Everblades’ recent success is no accident. With 16 returning players from last season, this group has built continuity and chemistry that has translated into results on the ice. That experience, combined with a culture of accountability, continues to drive the team forward.
"We clinched first place in our division, but there’s still a lot to play for," said forward Hudson Elynuik.
While the team has already locked in a playoff berth, players and coaches say these final regular-season games remain critical.
Ralph emphasized that preparation now will define how the team performs when the stakes rise.
"I think it’s more about making sure our game is where we want it to be. Strong and just unbreakable, in terms of how we play the systems, and again, our mindset. So, the motivation, it’s internal, it has to come from the guys," Ralph said.
Inside the locker room, players say their success starts with something deeper than systems or strategy.
"That’s a big mindset of ours in the room. The brotherhood. That’s how you win championships. And if you don’t have that and that kind of love throughout the room, it’s going to be pretty tough. When it goes down the stretch here," Elynuik said.
That brotherhood, they say, extends beyond the rink and into the stands, where fan support continues to play a key role.
"It energizes our team. But it, you know, when you’re in those tough situations, it helps your confidence. It helps your team’s camaraderie to know that everyone here is rooting for them," Ralph said.
As the regular season winds down, the Everblades are focused on maintaining that momentum. They host the South Carolina Stingrays on Friday in one of their final regular-season matchups, with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
